The role provides assertive outreach and support to individuals - to enable and empower them to become suitably and sustainably accommodated and break the cycle of rough sleeping. The role will include identifying and implementing strategies to enable these individual to overcome barriers to being accommodated and ultimately to exit patterns of crisis homelessness, and to engage in meaningful occupation. In addition to relieving rough sleeping the role requires advocacy and support for clients to prevent homelessness.

  • Maintain a regular street presence, initiating contact and working with other Outreach services and stakeholders within our Districts.

  • Ensure a record of each street outreach is kept so an overall profile of rough sleeping in the area can be produced.

  • Being the first point of contact between the District Council and the individual, the aim of the role is to assist the individual to address issues in hand relating to housing, health, wellbeing and other social or psychological factors.

  • Provide a link between the Individual, support services and relevant agencies.

  • Act as a representative to ensure that individuals are engaged with the right support.

  • The ability to respond quickly to reports of Rough sleepers which may involve carrying out early morning or evening visits.

  • A Full UK Drivers Licence is required for the role.

We are proud of the role we play in creating the environment, economy and communities for our districts. Babergh and Mid Suffolk have consistently been voted amongst the top places to live in the UK.

Working together across our Councils and with our partners in the public, private and voluntary sectors, we provide excellent services to our 190,000 residents across Babergh and Mid Suffolk – working hard to provide homes, support our communities, boost local economy, protect our environment and keep our districts clean, tidy and safe.

This role is normally based at our modern and conveniently located office accommodation, however, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been working from home and it has worked really well for us.*

We are committed to agile and flexible working (subject to business need), with full time, part time or job share opportunities considered.  Supporting equality and diversity, Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils provide opportunity and ambition for all, enabling and empowering our people to deliver the best possible results for our residents.
