Fixed term up to 2.5 years (apprenticeship)

Transport Planning Technicians provide technical support in the preparation, assessment and implementation of policies, plans and projects to manage and improve local, national and international transport systems, services and their connections with land use planning to support economic growth, protect the environment and support social cohesion.

You could be contributing to:

  • the planning and design of transport and traffic policies, plans, schemes and systems
  • collecting, preparing and presenting data, written information and analyses to inform the development of policies, plans and projects
  • modelling transport and traffic systems
  • assessing the impacts of possible transport measures
  • the development and implementation of travel planning (Smart Travel) schemes
  • the successful delivery of projects working as a member of a team. 

You will:

  • have 4 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C) including English, maths and science
  • have a desire to work in transport planning
  • have a passion for developing creative solutions to problems
  • be a team player
  • have excellent IT skills
  • be willing to learn and study outside office hours
  • be able to start the course in January 2021.

This is a Level 3 apprenticeship. On its completion, you will have satisfied the requirements for registration as an Engineer Technician by the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation.

The training will be currently undertaken online due to COVID-19.  Under normal circumstances it will be in Leeds, at the Leeds College of Building and is provided via block release. You must be prepared to travel to Leeds on a regular basis. Travel, meal and accommodation costs will be met by Suffolk County Council for the block release, as per the expenses policy.
