You will join a team of five electricians in the Maintenance and Contracts (Housing) Service. The service is dedicated to electrical repairs, electrical testing and electrical rewires within our rented housing and sheltered buildings within the Borough of Ipswich.

You will undertake routine and responsive repairs to electrical circuits and associated equipment, including diagnosing faults and rectifying, as required, or renewing to leave electrical circuits and associated fittings in a safe working condition.

As such, it is a great opportunity to make your mark at Ipswich and develop your career within the council. The varied workload will enable you to refine your existing skills, as well as develop new ones. Innovation and aspiration are encouraged.

You will need to have an electrical installation related qualification such as 17th or 18th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations City & Guilds 236 parts 1 and 2 or City & Guilds 2391. You will also have experience of working within a domestic or industrial electrical environment. You will need to have a driving licence and a basic understanding of IT technology.

The Maintenance and Contracts Service spends circa £21 million annually repairing, maintaining and improving a retained housing stock of circa 8,000 properties and 15 sheltered schemes to our local "Ipswich Standard". The council takes a holistic approach to stock management and has one seamless service that is responsible for everything in connection with the asset management of that stock; from initial design to completing works on site on a right first time basis, using our own directly employed trade teams and external contractors.
