An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the hostel team who manage the council's own temporary accommodation in Ipswich. The accommodation houses residents who have become homeless for a variety of reasons and is provided 24/7, 365 days per year.

The role can be challenging but also rewarding and would suit someone who is keen to work in an environment where no two days are the same. It is also an ideal position for those looking to forge a career path in Local Government.

As one of twelve officers, you will work across our two main sites in the town on a shift basis including bank holiday and weekend working. In addition to early and late shifts, there is a requirement to sleep-in as part of this role. All staff work to a four-week perpetual rota. Sleep-in shifts vary between 4 - 5 per four-week period, depending on the hours per week contract you apply for. Sleeping hours are remunerated by the hour regardless of whether you have been woken or not. This post also attracts enhanced pay for unsociable hours of time + 1/3 from 10.30pm - 6am.

In addition to your contracted hours, you will also be required to undertake annualised hours outside of your normal shifts. These hours are used to cover the absence of other staff (sometimes at short notice) and to enable you to attend key events and training. Annualised hours are paid on a monthly basis and reviewed annually.
Duties each day will vary but will include case work comprising facilitating access of support services from other agencies / departments, as well as crisis intervention for residents as necessary. You will also undertake administrative work associated with the residents including keeping detailed and accurate manual and computerised records.

You should be educated to GCSE standard and have grade C or above in mathematics and English or equivalent or NVQ level 2, or a minimum of two years qualitative experience in a related field.

We are looking for someone with experience of working with multi-discipline teams in a front facing service. IT skills are essential as well as an understanding of social and emotional issues. Experience of dealing with difficult and challenging behaviours in a professional capacity is also required.

You will need to be reliable and able to demonstrate a willingness to work with others to help achieve the requirements of the service provided. A flexible, can-do attitude is a must. Above all, you should be committed to working with people to provide a quality, customer focused service.

Previous applicants need not apply.
