Suffolk’s Public Health Team are currently recruiting for a Population Health & Prevention Commissioner to join the team. This is an opportunity to join a large, forward thinking and supportive Public Health team.

We are seeking an experienced health professional to start in this strategic leadership role which will oversee three main programmes of work – adult healthy weight, tobacco control and cardiovascular disease.

The role will require wide partnership working to achieve a collective responsibility and drive forward actions to improve health.

As part of the role, you will be required to identify local population needs, both now and in the future. Then agree priorities and develop strategies to meet these needs in line with local and national targets.  You will consider the available options to achieve the best possible outcomes and implement interventions within the resource available. Then monitor and evaluate outcomes to ensure continued efficiency and effectiveness through intervention.

To succeed in this role you will need to demonstrate:

  • they are educated to degree level or have equivalent qualification/work experience in relevant field
  • excellent knowledge and understanding of Public Health with experience in Health Improvement (experience of the topic areas would be desirable)
  • strong leadership, project management and people management skills
  • experience of working systemically to deliver quality services to meet targeted needs
  • clear understanding and proven experience of managing the strategic commissioning process
  • a proven track record of success in communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders.

A background in Public Health or the NHS would also be an advantage, along with awareness of political astuteness.
