If you are a strategic HR professional with experience of leading an organisation through transformation, Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils can offer you the ideal mix of energy, challenge, change, aspiration and opportunities.

Our districts, in the heart of rural Suffolk, are consistently voted amongst the top places to live in the UK and we are proud of the role our officers and councillors play in creating the environment, economy and communities that make them such a special area in which to live, work, visit and invest.

Like all local authorities we face the challenge and desire to continuously innovate; ensuring that we are deploying diminishing resources most efficiently and effectively, whilst driving a more commercial approach to service delivery and income generation – all with the single minded focus of having the greatest positive impact on the lives of our residents and communities.

We have taken joint working to new, award winning levels and now operate as a single workforce from a joint headquarters in Ipswich and we are already delivering new and innovative cross-organisational work in order to deliver our refreshed corporate priorities. Effective and inspirational leadership is vital in order to engage our workforce in new ways of working.  We are passionate about investing in our people and developing a new People Strategy and OD Programme to equip our 21st Century public servants.  A new set of values has also been developed by our employees and we are embarking on a programme of cultural change. You will play a key role in supporting us through all this exciting transformation.

The role will involve working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and Chief Executive to lead our People Strategy and interventions to facilitate our ongoing transformation.

The role requires a progressive and innovative approach to managing our people, organisational development (OD) and supporting cultural change.  You will lead, coach and support the HR, OD, Learning & Development Team and to effectively support the organisation, staff and managers.

We are looking for an experienced HR Manager, who has a commitment to bringing about strategic change. You will be pragmatic and flexible, and able to gain the confidence of senior managers, whilst ensuring that change is managed effectively. Having a commitment to your own continuous development you will create an environment where individuals can develop and grow. Your previous experience is likely to include managing a team, responsible for day-to-day HR, and a background of providing strategic HR/OD advice.   Ideally you will be MCIPD qualified and have a current understanding of employment law.

For an informal discussion please contact Tricia Palmer, Interim Head of HR / OD on 07892 766359.

Proposed interview date: Wednesday 29 May 2019.
