An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Suffolk County Council (SCC) Sensory and
Communication Service as a Sensory Support Practitioner with the Visual Impairment Team, working from Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds or Lowestoft (to be agreed upon appointment).

The Sensory and Communication Service, a progressive and dynamic team, is seeking to recruit a Sensory Support Practitioner with an ability to support visually impaired children and young people (0 - 25) in their home and in schools. What is their primary purpose in the role?
You will work alongside our specialist teachers, promoting the use of visual access adaptions to teaching and learning, with our children and young people, to develop their independence, whilst ensuring their safety and welfare.
You will need
- good communication skills and be confident in working with children and young people who have visual access needs, and their learning settings.
- skills in the use of Braille, Braille technology, and in making tactile learning resources would be an advantage, but training will be given if necessary.

- opportunities to work with our children and young people across the whole range of learning settings - preschools, primary and secondary mainstream and specialist schools and Further Education colleges
- on-going mentoring and support from colleagues within the Sensory and Communication Service.
Travelling requirements for your role
This organisation positively encourages the use of technology to communicate and engage, but in this role, you will need to operate across a wide and rural area, so you must either hold a full and current driving licence and have access to personal transport or meet the mobility requirements of the role through other reasonable and suitable means.
