Role Snapshot… Working at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, you will be based predominantly in the Emergency Department. You will be seeing patients who could return home with appropriate intervention and preventing admission to hospital. This will be a busy and demanding role with no two days the same.
What you could be part of…
South Norfolk and Broadland Councils have provided the District Direct service to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for the last three years, focussing mainly on facilitating timely discharge from the wards. The service is now running a pilot on admission prevention centred in the Emergency Department. You will be part of the wider Help Hub and Communities Team at the Councils which is focussed on promoting the health and wellbeing of our residents through effective collaboration with our partners in the Integrated Care System.

What you’ll be doing…
- Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team in the Emergency Department
- Seeing patients who could return home after social issues are addressed
- Arranging to address various societal factors to facilitate discharge from the Emergency Department in very quick time.
- Working as part of the wider District Direct team in the Hospital under the direction of the Senior District Direct Officer.
You must have…
- Previous experience of working with people who are in distress
- Some working knowledge of systems of health and social care
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to deal effectively with a range of professionals and patients from all walks of life
- The ability to work under pressure
- An engaging and empathic approach
- A knowledge of welfare rights and housing legislation, while not essential, is an advantage.
- Sound literacy skills
- Sound knowledge of basic IT systems
